Photonic quantum interfaces

Recent developments in the field of cold Rydberg atom physics, i.e. physics with highly excited atoms at ultralow temperatures, have established a new mechanism for realizing finite-range non-local interactions between photons. In conjunction with solid state experimental platforms, these systems provide an ideal photon-matter interface for the realization of sources for single photons on-demand, photon switches, photonic quantum repeaters and photon transistors. The goal of this project will be to explore applications of Rydberg physics as a photon-matter interface for the realization of nonclassical light sources and photonic quantum devices on different platforms.
