Spatially separated entanglement

The spatial dimension of physical systems crucially defines how much quantum mechanical properties survive the limit of large systems. It is known that especially in one-dimensional systems quantum fluctuations and quantum properties are more prominent. But, how can one extract true quantum entanglement with collective i.e. not spatially resolved, measurements? The goal will be the identification of preparation and detection protocols for model systems ranging from cold gases to real solid state systems.
